Sailing features prominently here. These are gaff-rigged oyster boats rounding a buoy at the entrance to the Helford. Between April and October the oyster beds may not be fished by boats using mechanical power in order to preserve the ecology of the river beds. The native oysters (Ostrea edulis) that grow wild here are rounder and take up to five years to reach maturity against the two or three years taken by the elongated Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigs)
